Every engagement-ring website is written for the bride. The men actually doing the planning get nothing useful. Mengaged is the site we wished we'd had.
Most engagement advice online is written by wedding magazines, jewellery brands, or bridal influencers. It's beautifully photographed and almost entirely useless to the person who has to plan the proposal, buy the ring, and not mess up the day.
If you've spent any time researching engagement rings online, you'll know the experience. Pages of pink-script headlines, soft-focus photos of women's hands, articles like "12 Dreamy Proposal Spots in Mykonos" with no information on cost, season, or how to actually plan a trip. The 4 Cs explained in 3,000 words of jargon. "How to find her ring size" articles that don't tell you what to do if you can't borrow one of her rings.
It's not that any of it is bad. It's that none of it is built for you, the man who's been thinking about proposing for six months and now has to actually do it.
We treat the engagement as three problems to solve, in order: pick the ring, pick the place, plan the day. Every page is built around what you actually need to decide, with a clear recommendation at the end of each section.
We don't pad articles to game search engines. We don't recommend the most expensive option. We don't pretend the 4 Cs all matter equally (only cut really does). We tell you when the upsell isn't worth it, and when it is.
We're British, currently UK-focused, and we'll be honest about that. Some of our advice on locations and jewellers is most useful if you're proposing in or from the UK. We'll be expanding to other markets as the site grows.
Every guide ends with a clear recommendation. "It depends" is sometimes the right answer, but we won't hide behind it. If we'd send you somewhere, we'll say so.
Real price ranges. What's worth paying for, what's a markup. The "two months' salary" rule is marketing, not advice, and we'll happily say so.
Beautiful photography is great, but we'd rather give you a comparison table than a moodboard. Function over flourish.
We earn a commission when you buy through some of our links, but we recommend jewellers and booking sites we'd send a mate to, not the ones paying the highest commission.
We want to be upfront about how Mengaged makes money, because trust matters when we're recommending things you'll spend serious money on.
Mengaged earns commission when readers click certain links on our site and go on to make a purchase. This includes links to jewellers (engagement rings) and travel booking sites (flights, hotels, activities). The commission is paid by the retailer, not by you. You pay exactly the same price as you would visiting the retailer directly.
We only recommend products and services we'd genuinely send a friend to. A higher commission rate doesn't get a retailer better placement on our pages. We rank options based on what we think is best for the reader.
We mark affiliate links clearly on every page where they appear, with a short disclosure at the top of the page. We don't hide that we earn money this way, because we think being upfront is the right thing to do.
If you find our guides useful, using our links when you buy a ring or book a trip is the best way to support us. It costs you nothing and it keeps the site running.
Our affiliate partners include jewellers like 77 Diamonds, Taylor & Hart, Vashi, Brilliant Earth, and Blue Nile, and travel booking sites including Skyscanner, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, and Mr & Mrs Smith. This list will change as we add or remove partners over time.
No retailer or partner has editorial control over our content. We've never been paid to write a positive review, and we'll happily criticise a partner if we think they deserve it. If a partner stops being a good option for our readers, we'll drop them.
If you have questions about our affiliate relationships, or you spot something on the site that feels off, email us. We'll respond.
We answer every email personally. If something on the site is wrong, missing, or could be better, we want to hear about it.
